Samael - Medieval Prophecy

This is some incredibly dark and primitive black metal, especially for the late 80s. It's easy to see why Samael became such a prominent figure in black metal, but this recording isn't exactly brimming with excellence. Compared to similar old-school black metal demos, the production really isn't that bad, but that's not saying much. The songwriting is elementary, which is understandable considering how young these guys were, but this isn't exactly an engaging listen. Like their other demos, this one might be worth a listen if you're a fan of Samael's early work, but it's definitely not essential listening. In fact, you'd be much better off just going straight to Worship Him and avoid listening to their demos altogether.
