Isengard - Horizons (1991) [EP]

This particular cassette from Isengard is the best one and the reason to buy Vinterskugge.  The production is raw and the guitars crusty, mixed just fine enough to sound hellish at high volumes.  "The Fog" is a Frost/Bathory type track, not far from A Blaze in the Northern Sky with a lot of shifting riffs and chilling vocals.  "Storm of Evil" is almost like raw black metal and minimal wave!  In other words it's got minimal keyboard melodies amongst the viking vocals and heavy guitars.  It's  great, especially considering how many times things like this have been awful.  "Bergtrollets gravferd" is a dark, brooding keyboard piece, like something you'd find on a Burzum album.  On it's own it's pretty good, but might be a bit out of place on a 4-song tape.  "Our Lord Will Come" sounds like the Fenriz' Red Planet tracks on the split with Nattefrost that was just released.  This track is my favorite in this style, with an Ozzy/Manilla Road vocal style that's just on-mark with the evil, crusty guitars.  So here we have 4 out-of-the-box black metal experiments that are all damn good.

What's this?
